FOGEM Folk Dance Group, in North Cyprus, was established in March 2007 by the reunion of the dancers who got separated from the State Folk Dance Group(Founded in 1976) of the Ministry of National Education and Culture in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
FOGEM counts around 150 members that are classified in four groups: children, youth, adult, masters group. It was established with the aim to preserve and promote the culture,musical heritage and folk dances of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and make them known all over the world.
Throughout history, Cyprus - the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, after Sicily and Sardinia, has been ruled by different empires including Byzantine, Venice, Lusignan, Ottoman and British empires, and as a consequence it has a very colorful cultural heritage, which has naturally affected also it's folk dances and musics.
We are going to share our photographs, musics and videos with the world through this website. We hope you enjoy our site.
